Construction Site Supervision (CSS) – A Site Supervisor is a vital role when it comes to health & safety on a construction site. As a Supervisor, you need to ensure that a project is seen through and completed safely.

A supervisor is responsible for the productivity and actions of a small group of employees. The supervisor has several manager like roles, responsibilities, and powers. As a member of management, a supervisor’s main job is more concerned with orchestrating and controlling work rather than performing it directly.

This NVQ is suitable for Assistant Site Supervisors, first line supervisors or those beginning a construction supervisory role. This is suitable for any one of a number of areas. It allows for the recognition of tasks currently being performed and measured against the National Occupational Standards. For the Construction Industry this can act as a development tool to progress a candidate’s knowledge, competence and performance.

Units

Candidates will be required to demonstrate understanding in:

Mandatory Units 

Confirming work activities and resources for an occupational
work area in the workplace

Developing and maintaining good occupational working
relationships in the workplace

Confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace

Implementing and maintaining health, safety, environmental
and welfare practices in the workplace

Co-ordinating and organising work operations in the workplace

Monitoring progress of work against schedules in the
workplace

Optional Units 

Allocating and monitoring the use of plant, machinery,
equipment or vehicles in the workplace

Confirming work meets contractual, industry and
manufacturers’ standards in the workplace

Implementing procedures to support team performance in the
workplace

Co-ordinating and confirming the dimensional control
requirements of the work in the workplace

Assessment methods

Learners will be assessed using a variety of assessment techniques such as:

On site observations

Answering knowledge based questions

Photographs 

Videos

Witness testimonies 

Professional discussions

Duration

Learners will complete this NVQ at their own pace so the duration can vary.

Outcome

On completion of this NVQ, candidates will receive a ProQual certificate, valid for a lifetime.
